Blocking covert access to Mac mic and camera

If you’re concerned about malware, governments, and other agencies from spying on you via your computer, this post is for you. As you know, it’s technically possible for the camera and microphone to be remotely activated on computers and smartphones. If you don’t want your Mac or MacBook camera being used to spy on you it’s easier enough to put some tape or a sticker over it. Although, it might get you some funny looks from friends or co-workers. The same can’t be done for the mic, as sound will still leak through.

There’s a free and easy way to block access to your Mac camera and microphone. It’s a small app called Oversight. You can download it from here.

Once installed, and active, it will notify you whenever something tries to activate your mic or camera. You can then block or allow it.
